How to set up VPN Client on opensuse  

Many people want to know how to use pptp VPN in opensuse client.
I will try to summarize vpn client configuration in opensuse 11.

===Setup produce===

  • 1. Please open your kmenu and click System --> YaST

  • 2. Click Network Devices --> DSL

  • 3. Change PPP Mode to Point to Point Tunneling Protocol and fill your Server Name or IP Address.
    After changed, please clicked Next button.

  • 4. Please click New button in this seclect ISP windows.

  • 5. Fill your username and password which included VPN server and than click Next button.

  • 6. You only need to click Next button.

  • 7. The pptp connection have been created.
    Please click Finish button.

  • 8. Modify your pptp configuration as below:


  • #cd /etc/ppp/peers
    #vi pptp


    plugin passwordfd.so
    noauth
    require-mppe
    mtu 1450
    mru 1450

  • 9. Now, you can click Dial-in to connect your vpn server.

  • 10. You will see the message from dmesg command as below.

    PS: You are not able to connect to vpn server if enable SuSEFirewall2.
    You need to modify firewall configuration and routing table.
